Mental Health
Central Plains Center provides crisis services to individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis. These services include a face-to-face assessment to ensure treatment in the least restrictive setting. We also provide crisis respite services when a respite could prevent a hospitalization. Examples of a mental health crisis are when someone is experiencing thoughts of wanting to harm themselves, or others. Another example could be the increase of psychotic symptoms that impair judgement and could put someone in danger. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death for Americans and the main thing to know is that suicide is preventable. Some warning signs to look out include:
- Talking about wanting to die or kill oneself
- Looking for a way to kill oneself
- Feelings of hopelessness
- Feelings of being trapped
- Talking about being a burden to others
- Increased use of alcohol or drugs
- Acting anxious, or behaving recklessly
- Sleeping too little or too much
- Withdrawing from people or feeling isolated
- Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge
- Experiencing extreme mood swings
If you or anyone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis our Crisis Hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please call 1-800-687-1300 and ask for help.
